July programs at Popham Beach Library
The Shortridge Coastal Foundationfrom Bates College will be the topic at the Thursday, July 10 “Summer Series” talk at the Popham Beach Library.In concert with the Bates Morse Mountain Conservation Area, Shortridge Coastal Center has served faculty, students, and researchers focusing on geological studies, salt marsh carbon stocks and emissions, and other areas of increasing importance to Maine's coastal ecosystems. Learn more about this local resource from Director Rebecca Clark Uchenna. Weather permitting, she will lead an outdoor environmental education activityas part of her presentation.
The following week, on July 17,the “Summer Series” program will focus on Popham’s beloved State Parks and historical sites. Gary Best, Southern Regional State Parks Manager and Sean Vaillancourt, Popham Beach State Park Manager will share an overview and history of the parks and forts and management updates. State Senator Denise Tepler will talk about bonds on the ballot this coming fallwhich would provide funding for infrastructure for the parks and historic sites.
Both July programs will begin at 7 p.m. in the Popham Beach Library, 965 Popham Road, Phippsburg.
The July and August “Summer Series” is offered by the PBIA, Popham Beach Improvement Association in conjunction with the library. The library welcomes all residents, seasonal residents and visitors to stop by during regular hours to borrow new books and DVDs and have a cup of coffee.June and September hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.and the library is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. during July and August. Every Saturday through Sept. 27 the library is open from 10 to 1.Look for the “OPEN” flag.
